Apologies for dumb question:
If this mine asset is on BHP's books as a liability (ie asset value -$200m) is it likely that any deal to transfer it would be a transfer of $ from BHP or to BHP?
eg BHP balance sheet better off if they pay $50m to remove a $200m liability. (and so the "bidding" is really about which entity will accept the smallest payment from BHP)?
Or is the view that the value of the asset to someone else, namely an entity whose business and expertise and scale in handling the asset could make it profitable for them such as NHC, is such that they will still need to pay BHP for the asset? (To me, seems like a long gap from -$200m before you can ask for money!!).
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to explain. Apologies again if its a dumb question.
