In NZ the cost of renewables is less than that of coal, and in Australia, the cost of renewables is less than that from the marginal old power stations. This is why AGL has lost vast amounts of capital for its shareholders. The cost of generating from it's ancient clunkers is more than that of the latest renewable tech. This situation is going to deteriorate of course, and the share market is forward looking, hence the haemorraging of their shareprice.
