I think it will come down to more than price alone.
If BHP want to unload any coal assets, they will make sure, as best they can, that whoever the purchaser is, has the capacity to manage the asset in a satisfactory manner.
They, BHP, will not want the finger pointed at them, if, by some reason, the purchaser makes an environmental mess of the site long after BHP have sold.
The political finger will still blame BHP for any such mess!
It will still be BHP's mess in the eyes of the ESG movement.
