Well, the car we've been driving around for years has proven to be a lemon, and the wheels have basically fallen off. Sure, being able to test drive the prospective new car before I drive it would be great, but we really don't get that option here - what's the alternative if we don't like the new one? Go back to the old one? And what would be our benchmark anyway? How could we compare a quick test drive of the new one against the years of limping along with the old one?

What if the prospective MD is already MD somewhere else - I would expect that might be very likely? He or she is not going to want his or her name touted publicly as the proposed MD of TNG should the vote be for change - to expect it is a bit unfair I think. If we install a new board we do that with the expectation that they will find a good MD - that's their job. Do we really want to vote on all the decisions they might take? I don't think so.
