If the so-called representatives in the circus we call Parliament are beholden to the faceless political masters within the Party organisations on how they have to vote, isn't this a subjugation of their free will to vote? As far as I know, it is against both Federal and State law to influence the way any member of Parliament votes on a Bill. Therefore I believe that the present system must stop.
Every vote taken in Parliament should be free, and secret.
This is the only way to achieve true democracy.
Of course they can still join a party and align themselves to form Government but at least the Executive and faceless party apparatchiks would be brought to heel and the Parliament would truly serve the people.
Cannot ever see it happening though, the system is just too cozy for them as it is.
