Former Liberal Premier Colin Barnett was interviewed today and suggested a gas pipeline be built from WA to the SA Moomba gas fields and then distributed through existing pipelines to the East. A figure of $6billion cost was mentioned but he said private enterprise would fund it. If gas continues to be in the long term mix for our power needs then the proposal probably has merit. Won't solve current issues because it would take three years to build. WA has the gas to accommodate Australia's long term needs. A pipeline would be more financially viable than freezing the gas and shipping it East according to Barnett.
