Mark Ellis: Big amounts of lithium are in South America. Maybe he’s (Musk) going to purchase some of that property and start mining but I’d say “why”. If I’m going to spend my money I’d rather spend it on technology than digging stuff out of the ground.

Sean Mitchell: But the availability of raw materials seems to be a bottleneck for automotive that want to produce electric vehicles, so why wouldn’t they integrate that as Tesla too, as Tesla typically does?

Mark Ellis: They could do that…The Chinese have purchased big [areas] of the salt flats in South America

Sandy Munro: Even in the US, the Chinese buy huge tracks of land and “no one is going to be mining that except us if we ever run out” (Chinese).

Mark Ellis: I guess it makes sense and you know Samsung has already had issues with VW because they can’t supply this stuff, so it’s going to happen.
