A 70kWh Tesla battery uses 63kg of Lithium Carbonate Li2CO3, of which 19% or 12kg is Lithium. That's about 0.17kg/kWh in Tesla Batteries.
Livent is announcing a memorandum of understanding for a multi-year supply agreement with LG for lithium hydroxide starting in 2020. Under this arrangement, Livent would be committed to supply significant volumes of various specifications of lithium hydroxide to LG for multiple battery applications. LG forecast production of 1m EV by 2022 from Wroclaw Poland Gigafactory. Thats an additional 12,000 tonne of lithium required for just one Gigafactory.
If livent want to expand, which they have said is a key part of their vision, then they will need to acquire additional assets. Fact.
