Iraq is such a mess. It's a lot of commonsense to involve neighbouring countries to develop a regional security framework - they all have interests in stability in Iraq. Robert Gates, defence secretary nominee, has previously advocated engagement with Iran but Bush has been very stubborn about not talking with people he considers enemy. The report from the Iraq Study Group may prove to be a good test of that.
The nuclear issue will probably remain a sticking point but at least the world seems to be opening up a bit.
