To provide offensive capability, a CROWS mount is attached to the top of the vehicle, armed with either a Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher or an M2 machine gun, which is remotely-controlled from inside the vehicle or using a special wireless control unit for dismounted infantry. The M1100 also includes a new M220 Redback Metal Storm-derived remote weapon system tied to the Boomerang gunshot locator, which can quickly detect the distance and vector of an incoming shot and automatically return fire if authorized by the crew.
