that is very easy to say in a rising gold price environment.
why do people fix interest rates on their mortgages?
for insurance on a large investment.
same goes with gold cos. mostly its the banks pushing the hedging barrow. however sometimes if you only have one project and it gets marginal quickly with a lower price, of course it pays to lock some high cost gold in at a much higher price than the spot price. at the moment some of the forward prices available are amazing.
hedging has its time place and method.
