    Correct and that is the issue that Australia has found itself in with negative gearing. Too many Australians have leveraged themselves to the hilt with investment properties reaping the rewards from negative gearing. It will be very painful to rip that band-aid off but it has to be done somehow.
    I like your suggestion about the quantity of investment for neg gearing.

    NZ has implemented a 5 year phase out plan which seems fairly reasonable. It gives people enough time to readjust their portfolios. It could be an option for Aus.

    The shift away from seeing housing as a commodity will only benefit every future Australian. I have my doubts that any major policy will be applied in regards to this issue in Aus though. Just more of the same bs adjustments.
