After reading all about the new penalties being introduced (and subsequently now operating as from 1st July 2014), I have been paranoid about dotting 'i's and crossing 't's in SMSF. Hadn't been doing anything wrong but those hefty penalties are enough to make anyone paranoid.
Anyway, as I was looking back on our spending on credit card over the past few months, there appeared an amount to our Accountant which I couldn't relate to. I've just put my hands on the SMSF Accountant bill and it unfortunately matches. It was at the end of the financial year just completed. Reasons such as dealing with health issues and clearing my Mum's house for settlement at the time, etc. don't cut it....an error, inadvertent or otherwise, is just that! I would have never done this intentionally, but looking at what is in front of me the evidence is overwhelming. Back to sleepless nights of worry. We are meeting a new accountant tomorrow but if I have made this error maybe I will have to stay with our previous very expensive one.
I haven't looked at our super bank accounts yet and of course I could have paid it twice....but highly unlikely by the look of it. Were paid at accountant's office and had personal and SMSF accounts to pay and knew that these had to be paid from different accounts....cannot for the life of me see how this could have happened if it has (in denial?!!).
