I understand some of the bio-security issues of vineyards and horse studs, and understand that CSG companies would not want to service wells that were subject to quarantine restrictions - so a simple solution would be to not put a well on one of those properties, or possibly adjacent properties.
What I don't understand is where the 2KM number comes from.
The wells are not radio-active, which is the sort of idea that a 2KM exclusion zone congers up in many people's minds.
I can't see how it would be unsafe to live within 100m of a well, and I can't see how adding 1.9KM of distance would make any difference.
The 2KM exclusion zone now has people calculating the distance from their bedrooms to the wells, as if that determines a 'safe distance'.
Would be great to get comments from QLD farmers with wells 'near' their homes.
