"lmo whoever wins will have to raise taxes in order to fix things."

    Yep.
Following the Socialists play book to a tee:

    1. Spend money like drunken sailors
    2. Hobble the state with debt
    3. Force the raising of taxes to service creditor claims

"lt's about time people realised that if they want decent hospital , ambulance , education , police , roads , airports services they are going to have to pay for them ."

    Priceless.
After the Andrews administration spends money like Idi Amin, it is now up to the people who "must realise".

Even half the state's $10bn pa interest bill represents a lot of investment in "hospitals ambulances, education, roads, airports, services" that could otherwise have occurred.

What a cluster-bonk this situation has turned out to be. I've seen the same result from many of big-spending, populist, vote-buying, bread-and-circus, Socialist governments around the world, so I knew this was coming.

It's just that the situation is far worse than even my bearish view had envisaged.

No self-respecting opposition politician would want to inherit this mess which is going to take a darn lot longer than just one electoral term to fix.
