Sorry, dub. I love everything else you say about everything else but, for me, religion does not "give a stuff" but "stuffs up" the little guy.
I agree, there are some wonderful priests out there who do care enormously about people -little or otherwise- but this is because they are humane, rather than religious. The true humanist does not drag anyone into any religion, including humanism.
Religions have become huge, oppressive institutions, great heavy buildings with heavily clad d ictators inside, pulpitasing about the lack of worth of women, of the humans (calling them sheep and children, etc) giving humans more worries about committing sins (despicable, damnable things!) and a thousand stories which are considered to be written by the holy spirit -whereas the stories written by other nations are written by poets and storytellers.
I don't care which religion we are talking about. All of them have their individual hard, sincere workers and all of them are, as institutions much as Dumas described them in his Notre Damme De Paris. Wrotten to the core.
