Western Australia's first 24/7 superstore opens in Perth today

    Monday, 09 July 2012

Western Australia's first 24/7 postal "superstore" will open in Perth today to enable shoppers to pick up their parcels any time of the day or night.

As part of a new and unique offer only available in Western Australia, the St Georges Terrace superstore also has a dedicated counter where customers can obtain and renew their driver's licences.

After a major transformation, the new Perth superstore has been revamped to cater for the boom in internet shopping and changing customer needs.

In a significant departure from the traditional postal outlet, a distinctive feature of the new superstore is its combination of self-service options, online shopping tools and personalised service.

The superstore features seven counters tailored to different customer requirements and a digital essentials zone in-store to allow customers to shop online via Apple Macs and iPads.

Personal service is provided for specialised transactions but for customers in a hurry, self-service terminals have been installed for bill payment, weighing and posting domestic mail, and parcel lockers ensure customers can pick up their parcels around-the-clock.

A dedicated area for travel services also serves as a one-stop travel shop, allowing customers to arrange their passport, travel insurance and travel merchandise, and obtain their foreign currency at an American Express currency exchange outlet within the store.

Australia Post Regional Manager for Retail Services in WA, Paul Lecher, said the 24/7 store was in response to record numbers of Perth residents now shopping online and wanting to pick up their parcels at a time which suits them.

"Our new superstores are in direct response to the 10 million Australians now shopping online and their desire for greater convenience when it comes to posting and picking up their mail," Mr Lecher said.

"Our customers have told us they are busier than ever and often can't get to the post office during office hours to pick up their parcel. By providing 24/7 access to parcel lockers, customers can pick up their parcels on the way to work, on the way home or even on the weekend."

Mr Lecher said the superstore's new offer to renew and obtain drivers' licences in-store was a result of a partnership with the WA Department of Transport and part of Australia Post's mission to continually expand its range of services to the community.

Michael D'Souza, General Manager Driver and Vehicle Services, WA Department of Transport said: "We have recently introduced metropolitan driver and vehicle services with Australia Post in Fremantle and the positive response suggests that people think the post office is a convenient place for key services."

"Customers can access all driver and vehicle services except for practical driving assessments and vehicle examinations in-store. We're delighted to have another key point of presence for our customers in the Perth CBD," he said.

The Perth superstore comes after the iconic Brisbane GPO opened as the nation's first superstore in November and is one of 30 to be operating in Australia by August this year. Superstores will also be established in Rockingham, West Perth and Cannington.

The Perth superstore is located at 66 St Georges Terrace.
