I had a look into your Endoclens post and was able to source the information back to a Medscape article by Rutala and Webe. However, presumably like yourself, I made the initial mistake of believing the information was current because Medscape digital abstracts always show the date on which a search was processed at the top of the abstract. For instance, a search this morning of the Rutala and Webe article will show a date of 2 December 2021 (US time).

The problem is (as I sheepishly admit had to be pointed out to me) is that the Medscape article which is the source of your information was published in 2001 (20 years ago)!

Since then, it is not at all clear that the Endoclens system has become mainstream in endoscope reprocessing, and if it has, it does not seem to have impacted on the concern in the medical community about the incidences of cross contamination from reprocessed endoscopes.

It seems inconceivable to me that Nanosonics would have been putting as much time and money into commercialising an automated cleaning process (Coris) for the cleaning aspect of endoscope reprocessing if there had already been a reliable and robust automated cleaning system in the market place for the past 20 years.

When I stumble across something interesting in my research and wish to share it on Hot Copper I try and point to the source of my information with a link. I think that helps those with whom I'm sharing the information and on more than one occasion I've found that if I've made an oversight or misinterpreted some information in the link, someone will fairly quickly point that out.
