How do you define more volatile weather?
In our neck of the woods (Brisbane) last summer was pretty mild when it came to storms, and Queensland had, from memory, one cyclone that crossed the coast.
Even the north of WA seemed to have a tame cyclone season.
So if ‘more volitile’ means more seasons with LESS wild weather (greater dispersion from the mean), I’d agree with you.
