Hi Reaper11, I think they ask the registration question to see the extent of voters that are registered to a Party who may at this particular election vote against their registered parties candidate. Eg there will be Republican registered voters who have said they will vote for Clinton and vice versa. They gauge discontent amongst registered voters of their own parties candidates.
