Yes I have read alot about Kodak, that decision to spin off Eastman was a by product of Kodak's decision to not become a chemicals company. They had the choice to do so as they had immense knowledge and IP in Chemicals, but chose to spin off Eastman and stay in photography. Their major competitor at that point, Fuji, took the chemicals path and spun off into several successful companies.
