Every shareholder, short-term and long-term, on the relevant date got the offer. The SPP was either an unexpected bonus for them or they actually bought shares simply to take part in it. I'm sure that many of them will sell to realize a quick and easy profit and buy that plasma TV, or whatever, that they weren't sure they could afford before WMT's offer of free money came along. But whether the price will fall significantly is another matter.
