Imagery is not my domain, but I have seen a lot of agencies...

Imagery is not my domain, but I have seen a lot of agencies (water corps, utilities, state governement agencies) start to invest in either their own drones or contractors, will this not have an impact? I know they can only fly smaller areas, but is it not a threat? That and I know a number of the state agencies across Australia are also looking to roll out their imagery as open data - again, I know it is down to quality and recency, but this could also have an effect? Any links for doing some homework would be appreciated
