But I didn't want and don't want you to pay for me.

It's very convenient for you to assume my comments are the product of a selfish bad-attitude, but I'm actually a libertarian. I don't want you to pay for anyone else but yourself and your family. You might call that selfishness, but I don't care what epithets people employ.

"It came about because your parents and grandparents didn't have your attitude. They helped build the nation and the benefits we have now."

I'm sorry, Austravel, but the world isn't so simple as you make out. Simply spending money is not the same as "building the nation". I reject the notion that the government 'invests' in the economy. It simply pisses money up against the wall.

The next descriptor I expect to hear is "naive" - there's those epithets again!
