Coincidence? I think not. Those price points also happen to be the 50 and 61.8 fib retracement levels of the above recent high low. We can see them in the close up daily above.
One theory: We hit circa $1 into the quarterly. That is the midpoint of the slightly longer high low, circa $1.50 high. We retrace to fill those gaps before our new year run breaking above a buck for good.
