    Thanks @slick, it is great to see a non holding poster who knows their stuff providing very useful information for no apparent gain except to genuinely educate. It is very much appreciated by me and others here I expect. I agree that there is no point in continuing to explore this ad infinitum as we will never know, You have answered the question as best you can and we retail holders will indeed be more careful next time, which may not be too far away. However we always have to be careful that there is not news behind any such action. There may have been this time but it didn't eventuate.

    The shorting angle does sort of make sense but still doesn't explain the urgency of the buying by all of them at once. It wasn't necessary to achieve their aim of just acquiring stock to short. I personally believe this was started by a strong rumour of an offer and was ended by the LTR denial, but we will probably never know. I accept shorts may go up now but sounds a crazy play to me because another offer could happen at any time. I was premature in calling LTR was in play as the referee put their whistle away before kick off. Thanks for your time in posting. Cheers, Daisy
