Thanks h00ts for re-posting NineLives post, I was hoping you would do that, because there are a number of points in there, which all posters should remember and take to heart. When I referred to respectful and fact based posting I had NineLives' post in the back of my mind.

This particular sentence stands out for me, but sometimes becomes the hardest to maintain "You will do yourself and your stock a great service if you can rip the arguments of the naysayers to pieces with good solid facts whilst maintaining a standard of personal respect for your opponent."
It is especially hard in cases where one is talking to repeat "offenders", when it is so easy to do the ripping. The key is though whilst doing the ripping to maintaining a standard of personal respect for your opponent so that it doesn't go beyond robust debate, where attempts to discredit, belittle etc should have no space.
