The reason you have not heard from Rio or BHP is becuse there is no formal bid on the table, SDL has been advised and are entering talks. If a bid is endorsed by the board, to which then a vote will be suggested, then a third party would get involved, why would you get to carried away yet, this has at least a couple of months to go at which any stage someone can stump up a superior bid, which folks is not always cash!!!!

Also the fact that that others have not weighed in, could be that they are already in talks with the current offer (albeit not formalised) or the fact they are deciding if they want to join a JV, as they can not take total ownership, it is impoissble when someone owns a 19% blocking stake, so maybe it is not who they want to do buisness with......
