Nice pickup, and I'm grateful you brought it here. Yeah, it's so logical isn't it, and would be very surprising if Kina Bank isn't setting about something similar, subject to finalisation of talks with PNG gov't and other banks over the mooted budget tax hike.

I'm inclined to agree that ANZ could have had this in train, and for sure a myriad of large companies whose growth trend is intact should contemplate the move given how opportunistic government is becoming.

Cynical? Maybe, but the money they've been grabbing from us tends to be managed less and less effectively, (pandemic scenarios notwithstanding). Look at their bumbling fossil fuel response to coal exporters finally having some "bank like" success. Many on HC mining threads have raised the government's option of a banking tax of some description.

Kerry Packer was right, and too many examples of government inadequacy made him so.
