Average cost to run the family car is close to $16k a year

Average cost to a household of 2/3 people hooked up to the ES grid for a year varies a lot but I’ll give a range of $4k to just under $8k based on the figures for 2021 that I found ($7800 was 2 people in Tassie).

So $20k for a family of four just to keep the lights on and the ability to drive to the shops burns through 10% of the gross earnings of a family on $200k.

That’s scary.

It depends where you live & how you live.
I know a family with 3 kids & a mortgage earning less than $150K p.a. & they're not struggling at all.
