Unwired (UNW) is already struggling in the area with what is considered the best technology - WiMAX (which is backed by Intel and put into PC's etc etc)
Telstra has NextG - which will have far more coverage than EFT's system (and UNW's)
Issue here is not technology - its that consumers dont know who EFT is in the market, and what makes their product any different from their competitors (Eg iiNet)
iiNet is moving into content with iTunes and some limited movies being made available with Fairfax, whilst Bigpond offers movies, games and music downloads (not subject to download quota).
To me its all about marketing and product differentiation, not a move into a market where major players have either rolled out nationally (TLS) or losing money (UNW - which counts Intel as a shareholder) - else CAPEX costs will just kill them, network will be under equipped and low coverage, and differentiation by price is a lose/lose scenario.
They need to do something a little smarter.
