I don't understand the fuss.
Brothels are legal and it is not an offence to use them.
Paying with his union credit card was probably wrong but by all accounts the money was repaid.
As such there is no police investigation as there is no criminal activity to investigate.

My guess is that Thomson has done some silly things and maybe even lied about who used the credit card but unless he is charged and convicted of a criminal offence he is not required to resign from parliament. As the police are not even investigating this is not going to happen and he will not be forced to resign. He might choose to resign but I doubt it, so a by-election is highly improbable.
