South African-based Woolworths Holdings, the owners of David Jones, are keen to expand into food retailing.   Sounds like it may be more at the upper end of the market, and one of the biggest impediments to Woolworths SA expanding into the Australian food market is a lack of relationships with suppliers.   In their home country, around 30% of their earnings come from food.

This could be a threat to MTS, or possibly even an opportunity (some sort of JV?  I suspect MTS would have an attractive supplier and distribution network that Woolworths SA could tap into)
