In my experience 'gut instinct' means 'gut extinct'.

Using CFD requires a lot of self control so it's a personal issue really. Some people are good at CFD and others find it difficult to get ahead.

When I buy a CFD I have a reason eg backed up by analysis, part of a strategy, mixing longs and shorts.

Then there are the nasty surprises eg profit forecast downgrade.

Basically how much are you prepared to lose?
