    New Uganda well next month
Published 22.01.2010 10:53:32 by John BradburyLondon-listed Global Petroleum has signalled that a new exploration well will kick off in Uganda next month.

Global says the Aviva 1 exploration well in Exploration Area 5 in Uganda is due expected to start in early February once approval for an environmental impact study has been received and a land rig is delivered to the well site.

Partner Tower Resources has previously indicated that a deal has been signed with Oil and Gas Exploration Company Cracow Limited (OGEC) to supply a land rig for the Aviva 1 well, which has two targets below 702 m ~(2,302 ft) and another just above the well's basement depth of 833 m (2,732 ft).

The higher interval is targeted to encounter high quality fluvial sandstones, similar to those found in the successful wells in Licence EA1, adjacent to EA5, but which were absent in the first exploration well, Iti-1, Global indicated in a quarterly report issued today.

And it added: The deeper prospective interval may have alluvial sandstones similar to those encountered in the basal reservoir at Iti-1, but of improved quality. It is anticipated that the well will take about two weeks to drill to total depth.
