Do you think the virus is going to magically disappear at some point? Or that everyone will take the vaccine?
On the one hand I agree with you and think lockdown has proved how underestimated zoom and overall potential to work from home for many businesses, on the other hand a disappearance of the virus entirely or a vaccine being a quick silver bullet are unrealistic. The general public is beginning to turn against lockdowns and accept personal risks more broadly, unless you truly believe that international travel is off the menu until 2022 there will have to be a return to normality that still accepts existence of the virus. Australia for example has not achieved herd immunity and there is a large portion of the population that aren't willing to be vaccinated. Are Australian's and those internationally going to forgo travel indefinitely for the sake of a virus that kills roughly 1/1000 for those even in the 40-59 range? If we take out those with existing conditions the number is truly miniscule, people deal with these probabilities of death in their every day lives. The rate is only likely to get lower as studies on potential and current treatment optimize the situation further. Death rates have already drastically dropped in recent months.
"The possibility of safe air travel until there is instant testing or effective treatments would be negligent at best IMO."
You're living in your own little dream world. Take a look at the death rates for those under sixity and without high-risk conditions. There are consequences and issues involved here beyond a juvenile binary of stopping everything or opening everything because of people dying and wailing about "risk" that quite frankly they didn't care less about when they destroyed peoples livelihoods, businesses, mortgages, mental states and financial futures with irresponsible lockdowns.
