Although all stocks listed below do host silver, it is rarely the principle metal. In the main the stocks are base metal plays with accessory silver. One of the exceptions is SVL with its Bowdens project. It has a reserve of 29.9Mt at 69g/t silver and a resource of 128Mt at 67g/t silver. The project also hosts minor lead and zinc. One of the world’s largest silver producers is the Cannington mine operated by South32. It produced over 12Moz in FY2019, along with lead and zinc. The world’s largest silver producer is Mexico-based Fresnillo, which produced 58Moz in 2018 from 3 gold-silver mines. Its largest mine, Saucito, produced 20Moz. Mexico is the world’s largest silver producer, 197Moz in 2018, compared with total Australian production of 35Moz.
Total world production in 2019 was 27,000 tonnes (952Moz). World reserves amount to 560,000t, mostly as a by-product of lead-zinc and copper deposits.
