If buyers are having trouble getting hold of physical gold then they will instead buy shares in the best and most liquid gold companies.

There will be buyers who were looking for say one ounce or 10 ounces of physical gold, plus of course much larger buyers.

In Australia NCM is a standout.

Another option for buyers of 100 ounces is purchasing a paper gold futures contract on Comex cheap thanks to the paper downramping of gold there and then demanding delivery. However there is always the risk, however unlikely, that delivery will be declined and US dollars offered instead.

Now that would be a very poor susbstitute, for we all know the massive baggage that comes with US dollars.
