    I do believe in the potential for domestic houses to be off grid in the future although I still think some form of grid is the go . Business and services needs the grid . If all the domestic customers were to disconnect , power prices would go through the roof thus hurting businesses and ultimately the consumer . We can't expect business to go off grid that quickly and it's totally unrealistic for the big energy users .

    I think the future is the big energy companies paying a reasonable feed in tariff and use the domestic customers with solar as ' their ' power station . Not so different to now except that their baseload generation might be smaller and commercial battery storage will be part of the equation . The energy company will still maintain the grid and makes a profit from managing the energy distribution .
