Sichuan Hebang Biotechnology's Involvement in JIIPE, Indonesia

    Facility Overview:
Sichuan Hebang is making a substantial investment of USD 800 million to construct a large chemical production facility in the Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) in East Java, Indonesia. The facility, which will cover 67 hectares, is slated for completion by 2026. It will focus on producing sodium carbonate (soda ash), ammonium chloride, and glyphosate, with annual production capacities of 600,000 tonnes each for sodium carbonate and ammonium chloride, and 200,000 tonnes for glyphosate.

    Strategic Importance:
The JIIPE facility is strategically important for Hebang as it aims to expand its market presence in Southeast Asia and meet the growing demand for these chemicals. The facility's location in the special economic zone of JIIPE offers advantages such as tax incentives and logistical benefits due to its proximity to major shipping routes.

    Partnership with Avenira

    Investment and Equity Stake:
Hebang has invested AUD 2 million in Avenira, securing a 12.04% stake in the company through a private placement. This investment is part of a larger funding effort by Avenira, which raised approximately AUD 4.8 million to advance its projects.

    Development of Yellow Phosphorus Plant:
The partnership includes a non-binding strategic cooperation and offtake memorandum of understanding (MoU). This MoU outlines plans to develop a yellow phosphorus plant at Avenira's Wonarah Phosphate Project in the Northern Territory. The proposed plant will have an annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes of yellow phosphorus. Hebang will provide technical support for the plant’s development and will also purchase some of the yellow phosphorus produced, ensuring a steady supply of raw materials for its herbicide production.

    Significance of Yellow Phosphorus:
Yellow phosphorus is a critical intermediate product in the production of thermal phosphoric acid, which is used in the manufacture of LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) Cathode Active Material. This material is crucial for the production of batteries for electric vehicles and other energy storage solutions. The development of the yellow phosphorus plant aligns with Hebang’s broader goals of enhancing its capabilities in the renewable energy and agricultural sectors.

    Impact and Future Prospects

    Expansion in Southeast Asia:
Hebang's facility in JIIPE and its partnership with Avenira underscore its strategic expansion into Southeast Asia. The region presents significant market opportunities due to its growing industrial and agricultural sectors. The JIIPE facility will bolster Hebang's production capacity and enable it to better serve the regional market.

    Enhanced Production Capabilities:
The collaboration with Avenira will enhance Hebang’s production capabilities in phosphate-based products, ensuring a reliable supply of key raw materials needed for its herbicide and fertiliser production. This partnership will also support the development of advanced materials critical for renewable energy applications, such as LFP cathodes.

    Technological and Market Leadership:
Hebang’s involvement in both the JIIPE project and the Avenira partnership demonstrates its commitment to technological innovation and market leadership. By investing in advanced production facilities and strategic partnerships, Hebang is positioning itself as a key player in the global chemical industry, particularly in the fields of agriculture and renewable energy.
