The excuse that allows shorters and bots and "market makers" is they "provide liquidity". So in their eyes this system is better than having a fair market because "low liquidity" means your buy or sell order could potentially sit idle for weeks until another person comes along wanting to buy or sell into these low volume stocks. It's not an issue with Microsoft or Apple etc as the amount of money going in and out of the stock at any time is enormous.
