My guess would be that after state governments and private enterprise (see ChargeFox and others) has done the heavy lifting on national charging stations this announcement will herald the funneling of cash to LNP donors so they can catch up.
Surely there's a coal baron or 2 who will be looking for a handout to diversify into electric vehicles at the public trough. There's a couple that immediately spring to mind. They only fund their donors.
