A new idea is usually good, but if timing and tech doesn't line up, it will likely fail in the early stages. Timing is much better for Hydrogen now. Not sure what you think Twiggy's 'proper generation unit' looks like though, isn't it solar after all?
I've seen wayyyyy too many millions of hectares of desert to stress in the slightest way about a lack of unproductive land that could provide for solar installations. It comes down to making the right decisions and yes, many times people like the governments make a proper mess out of it.
Maybe you could have faith in vanadium/bromine flow batteries instead? It's tried, tested and SAFE. It also outlives lithium equivalents by a significant margin. Agree about lithium 100% though, I've been saying for a while that it's not a practical solution for grid storage.
