I should also note... a loss, is not the same thing as lost - if the funds have been invested in an asset (R&D for IP, development of staff capacity / capability or other asset) - there is the opportunity for that loss to generate revenue at a later time.
IFRS adjustments to book value on financial assets also impact profit and loss quite dramatically... onerous PPAs being a relevant example for AGL
