I am just being grounded in reality. Only renewable that works at night is wind and geothermal. Geo doesn't work everywhere and wind doesn't always blow. I am not deluded into thinking you can build so many wind farms that you can solve the night problem. Hornsdale cost $90M and it can support 30,000 homes for 8 hours. But South Australia has 767,000 homes.

So that means 20mins for the battery and even less if you factor in 24/7 non-homes that needs to be powered like street lights, hospitals and police stations. If you really want to be charged up for night by solar and wind, you need to build at least 36 times more batteries (for power use between 6pm-6am) which brings the bill to $3.2 billion dollars.

But this still doesn't solve the problem. What if it rains the whole day and you get 50% power from wind and solar? You won't have the energy to last 12 hours at night.

Wishful thinking and praying doesn't solve real life issues. Just because someone have drank the cool aid doesn't mean I have to. I love a clean environment but I know grannies in old folk homes and johnny who got into a car accident in ICU needs power 24/7. I am not the one who needs to grow up.
