News: Alumina transitions refinery to gas

    Alumina Limited (ASX:AWC) has transitioned a Spanish alumina refinery from fuel oil to natural gas. 
     
    The $32 million investment will create lower costs for the San Ciprian facility also reducing green house gas emissions by 30 per cent. 
     
    The refinery is part of the AWAC joint venture with Alcoa and supplies alumina to major European smelters as well as several customers in the chemicals and construction materials markets.
     
    The Galacian Regional Government retains ownership of the newly built gas pipeline. 
     
    Alumina Limited (ASX:AWC) made a loss of $50.3 million for the half year ended 30th June 2014.
