Remember that oxide ore in addition to what previous posters have said - is often enriched in gold compared to primary ore due to supergene enrichment processes.
So to sum up -
A large oxidised capping on a gold sulphide orebody is usually great news because -
the oxide ore is often easier digging than primary sulphide bearing fresh rock -
a large component of the oxide gold is often easy milling -
the oxide ore is often enriched in gold compared to the sulphide ore. (Can be enriched in copper too if that is a factor).
What not to like.
