There are absolutely people who will pay this much for sustainably sourced, local produce. Did you know the chickens you eat for $10kg are only 8 weeks or so old. free-range is normally around 12 weeks old. They are bred and fed for insane grotesque rates of growth and cannot even walk as their legs / muscles cannot carry their weight. Its almost like the Matrix... The drive for cheap food has brought out these practices and people are becoming increasingly aware of this and seeking better. a decade ago or so free-range eggs was a new thing and seemed exorbitantly prices compared to $2 for battery eggs. The population is willing to pay $6 - $8 for their eggs now so chickens can live in better conditions. Its a long term trend going through society.

Another way to look at chicken meat / milk prices is - they have not changed in a decade or more. Yet your income probably has. So as a % of your income these items are now far cheaper than they used to be. Prices have not changed for many reasons - efficiency, cutting costs, increasing scale, reducing profit margins, competition.. The real losers have been (in some cases) farmers and animals.

That $20 chicken probably was raised properly, could eat normal food and wander around, and lived longer. Its costs the farmer a lot more to produce meat using traditional, ethical farming methods. The result is an all around better product.

It won't be mass market.. but it has a clear market....
