AQZ has increased its wet lease flying for Virgin Australia having recently commenced Brisbane to Adelaide services with F100 aircraft. These are ramping up at present with 13 return flights a week to be flown from 28 November. This is a relatively long flight at 3 hours 5 mins heading west and 2 hours 30 mins heading east.
AQZ F100 and F70 aircraft are also used by Virgin between Brisbane and Newcastle, Rockhampton, Mt Isa and Alice Springs. Additionally, AirNorth is using dry leased AQZ E190's for Virgin between Brisbane and Townsville and Brisbane and Darwin. My assumption is that the Qantas wet lease deal with AQZ prohibits AQZ wet leasing E190's to Virgin direct.
A search of Qantas timetables into the new year shows an increasing use of AQZ E190's, including up to five return flights per day between Brisbane and Adeliade.
The relatively bouyant domestic aviation market appears to be having a positive spin off for AQZ's wet lease flying hours.
