This seems like a terrible deal for AQZ shareholders. The ACCC took for ever to make a decision on QAN’s 20% shareholding in AQZ. If this drags on for a year AQZ’s share price could easily have reached $4.75 in 12 months time, in the absence of QAN’s takeover, based on improved earnings from the deployment of the E190s. There is also no oportunity to participate in any appreciation in QAN’s share price, from there covery in earnings post pandemic, between now and when the scheme is implemented as the number of shares received will be based on QAN’s share price at the time of implementation.
One question I have on this is whether this will trigger a capital gains tax event for AQZ shareholders or whether shareholders will get capital gains tax relief as no cash consideration is being paid.
